crazier than shirttails

This is my 1000th post to ‘crazier than shirttails’ (in what I believe is the twelfth year of my blogging in one form or another, and the seventeenth month of this blog in particular) and, to celebrate, I would like to revisit some of my better moments in case you missed them:

• Two drawings of two of my favorite people: Esteban Rey. Jennifer Mo Bot Morris.
• J.D. Salinger has passed away…
• The introduction to Summer Anne’s Best 125 Songs of the 2000s & the final list, which bolds the best writing on a particular song. 
• What we did in New York. A retrospective of my first trip to NYC as an adult. Also Rickey Henderson. See also: What we did in San Diego.
• “aren’t we a pretty couple?”
• Top ten reasons you make a great brother, by me. Reason number two: “You serve as a good example of a Dense brother.”
• The best mixes I ever made. After I gave it to him, he wrote me this email: Thank you thank you for the tape.  It’s an amazing “driving at night in the middle of nowhere” kind of tape.  Perhaps it’s too good, hypnotic even.  It caused me to miss my exit on the way home.  I didn’t notice until I was entering San Marcos.”
• Race and music and Stephin Merritt. “I think we’d all be better off trying to be honest and self-contemplative about these things instead of immediately jumping to our own defense in an attempt to look like that saint who just “doesn’t see” skin color.”

• Manifesto: rule 01 and rule 12.
• I used to draw a picture for my tip jar every day, listing things I love. Here is the collection of everything that made a list in 2009.
• How to make spaghetti pancake and how to make tiny cakes inside oranges.
• I used to sometimes post excellent poetry by other people, such as The Compass Room: East by Thalia Field and Admonitions to a Special Person by Anne Sexton.
• I haven’t actually changed at all since I was a child and this is the proof.
• Patrick and I wrote a song together once.
• Some stuff I figured out. “We all need to wake up every morning at a reasonable time, and eat a reasonable amount of food, and smile and laugh sometimes, regardless of whether we’re sleeping alone or not.”
• The best catchers is probably my favorite piece of artwork I have done since starting this blog.
